Jamie L Gloor is an experienced, international researcher, educator and mentor. She is American born but currently resides in Zurich, Switzerland. Her research interests focus on individual and organizational health, including publications on diversity and leadership and research experience at prestigious universities across four different continents.

Why the future is…funny? (TEDx Zurich talk)

Wow! I’m incredibly grateful for the organizers, coaches, hosts, translators, 100(ish) volunteers and folks behind the scenes, 800(ish) attendees (including some of my family, team, and friends!), and 9 other speakers who bravely shared their big ideas at a very inclusive TEDx Zurich yesterday! What a powerful and unforgettable experience with loads of creative and inspiring ideas and individuals.

In my 12-min. talk, I wove a narrative through my years of research on diversity, (social) sustainability, and humor—condensed into 3 key points—pointing to why the future is (or rather should be) funny.

Methodical Storytelling for Leaders

Esther Choy, President of the Leadership Story Lab, and Karl Schmedders, Professor of Quantitative Business Administration, will show us how to use storytelling to bridge the theory-practice gap in a 2-hour event on Thursday evening in Zurich (for more info, see here). Then on Friday, Esther will coach CareerElixier members and alumni in 2 private, small group sessions on how to apply storytelling and persuasion tactics in the context of our own research.

"Work-Life & Diversity at the University" Student Poster Session

During our poster session on Friday, December 9th, at PLM-103/104 (Plattenstrasse 14), my 16 Master-level HRM students presented 5 empirical research projects around the topic of "Work-Life & Diversity," showcasing their original analyses using data collected from ~2,000 early career academics from all over Switzerland.

Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management

I attended the the 75th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management held August 7-11, 2015 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

The program theme was Opening Governance. The 2015 theme invites members to consider opportunities to improve the effectiveness and creativity of organizations by restructuring systems at the highest organizational levels, and to try to answer the many questions organizational governance faces in today's digital and informational climate.

Together with colleagues from Germany (Aline Hernandez Bark, Goethe), Switzerland (Levke Henningsen, UZH psychology), and the United States (Avina Gupta, NYU), we also presented a symposium on gender and leadership with our stellar discussant from Yale Business School, Professor Victoria Brescoll (see below). I also presented a paper coauthored with Tyler Okimoto, Anja Feierabend, and Bruno Staffelbach on Young women are risky business? The “Maybe Baby” effect in employment decisions.
